What Is The Definition Of Blocked Punt In Football?
1. A blocked punt is when a defensive player is able to penetrate the offensive line and block a punt attempt behind the line of scrimmage.
After a punt has been blocked, the ball is then live and any team may recover and advance the ball. However, if the punting team recovers the ball behind the scrimmage and it is fourth down, they must advance the ball past the first down marker in order to retain possession of the ball. If they fail to gain a first down, then the defense is granted possession at the last spot of the ball.
