How Many Rings Does Kevin Durant Have?

Brad Penner/USA TODAY Sports

Total NBA Championships Won: 2 (2o17, 2018)

Kevin Durant is a current professional basketball player who plays for the New Jersey Nets in the NBA. He is widely known by broadcasters and fans as simply KD.

Durant’s rise to NBA dominance

Durant rose to prominence as a highly-touted prospect out of high school in the Washington D.C area. He played one season of college basketball at the University of Texas before being drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics as the second overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. Durant was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2008, and he quickly became one of the league’s premier players, winning the NBA MVP award in 2014.

How was Durant’s career with the Oklahoma City Thunder?

The year after Durant’s rookie campaign, the Seattle SuperSonics moved to Oklahoma City, where they became the Thunder and changed their color scheme to blue, orange, and yellow. That year, the team drafted Russell Westbrook out of UCLA, and the two would form a formidable duo that would help take the Thunder to NBA prominence for many years.

Durant played nine seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder, winning four scoring titles and becoming one of the most popular players in the league. He helped lead the Thunder to the NBA Finals in 2012, where they lost to the Miami Heat. Durant left the Thunder in free agency in 2016 to join the Golden State Warriors.

What is Kevin Durant’s history in the NBA Finals?

As of 2022, Kevin Durant has reached the Finals three times, and has won two NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors, where he was named Finals MVP in both of those years. Durant first won a championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2017, and he won his second title with the Warriors in 2018.

  • 2017 NBA Championship: After sustaining an injury during the regular season, Durant arrived back on the Warriors roster in time for the start of the 2017 NBA playoffs and made an immediate impact in helping the team advance to their third straight Finals while also becoming the first team in NBA history to streak to 12 straight playoff victories. During the Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Durant was the team’s top scorer in every game averaging 35.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 5.4 assists on 55.5 percent from the field. His dominance earned him the NBA Finals MVP.
  • 2018 NBA Championship: Durant grabs his second NBA title after fighting off elimination in the Western Conference Finals against the Houston Rockets. That earned the Warriors a rematch against the Cavaliers, who were ultimately swept by the more dominant Warriors and powered by Durant’s MVP performance, averaging 28.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 7.5 assists.
