REPORT: Kawhi Leonard Wants To Be Traded By The Spurs

Soobum Im/USA TODAY Sports

According to the San Antonio Express News, San Antonio Spurs superstar Kawhi Leonard wants out of Texas.

The report broke this morning when reporter Jabari Young tweeted the news.

And here we go… sources tell @ExpressNews that Kawhi Leonard wants to be traded from #Spurs … more to come…

To add to the madness, Shams Charania reported one of the main reasons for Leonard wanting to leave was due to the uncomfortable atmosphere.

Leonard has grown uncomfortable with the Spurs and is ready for move, league sources tell Yahoo. https://t.co/uTux1nZYHV

There’s been speculation all season on what Leonard would do come the offseason, especially since he was medically cleared to play in February and still chose to sit out after recovering from a quadriceps injury. On top of that, there was a player’s only meeting before the playoffs where the team urged Leonard to play.

If Leonard were to move on, he would be leaving millions of dollars on the table, as he would be walking away from a super-max contract.

Some destinations that have come up are the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks. With LeBron most likely headed to the Lakers, the thought of adding the two-time All-Star with the best player in the game may be extremely enticing for Los Angeles. Especially with such a young, athletic core already being groomed in Southern California.

Leonard was limited to just nine games last season, while nursing the quadriceps injury. On top of being a two-time All-Star, Leonard is a two-time Defensive Player of the year, while also being named the 2014 NBA Finals MVP.
