Shaking Things Up, Celtics Agree To Trade Rajon Rondo To The Mavericks

than the Phoenix Suns? That feeling looks like it’s going to make a return when Rajon Rondo suits up for his next game.

The Boston Celtics have appeared to have come to an agreement with the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday to send their All-Star point guard to Texas. A move many thought the Celtics would never do, while many others thought it was about time to ship Rondo elsewhere and continue with their rebuild.

If the deal goes through today, the Celtics will in return receive Brandan Wright, Jae Crowder, Jameer Nelson and draft picks. They’ll receive a first rounder in 2015 and a second rounder in 2016. The details of the trade could possibly change, but the main thing is the deal with the Mavericks is basically done.

Although it appears that the Mavericks gave up a lot for the point guard that isn’t really a scoring asset, they got probably the perfect piece to their puzzle. Because Rondo isn’t a scoring machine and is more known for finding his open teammates, the Mavericks on paper look only to get better. Adding Rondo to a starting lineup that includes Monta Ellis, Dirk Nowitzki, Tyson Chandler and Chandler Parsons, is scary. Especially when the team is already 19-8 in a tough Western Conference.

If this trade goes through, Rondo will be the last piece of the Celtics’ main group who last won a championship. But on the other hand, this trade is really going to shake up the dynamic of the West.

I’m sure Rondo is just sitting there, waiting to sign and get this trade finalized. He was already averaging over 10 assists a game for a sub-500 team. Can you imagine how many assists he’ll start getting a night with Ellis, Nowitzki and Parsons spacing the floor? Oh, boy.
