Oh Really? Madison Bumgarner & Russell Wilson Were Roommates

October 31, 2014 By Nick A.

Well, isn’t that just a fun little fact?

What are the chances that current World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner and last year’s Super Bowl winning quarterback Russell Wilson were roommates? I’m not good at math, but apparently their odds were very good.

Even though the two athletes play two different sports and grew up in different states, their paths did cross once when they were coming out of high school.

If you weren’t already aware, Wilson, who’s now the starting quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, was once a promising baseball prospect (in addition to football prospect) coming out of high school in Richmond, Virginia. He was so good that the Baltimore Orioles selected him in the 41st round of the 2007 MLB Draft. Needless to say, he was a pretty good athlete.

That same year, the San Francisco Giants selected Bumgarner with the 10th overall pick. A good pick at that seeing how Bumgarner almost single-handedly led them to the World Series title this year.

And it was in 2007 when their paths crossed and they were soon bunking next to each other… even if it was only for a short time.

“We were roommates at the East-West showcase coming out of high school for the top 100 baseball players,” Wilson said, according to CSNBayArea.com.

Long story short, Bumgarner stuck with baseball and that, as you saw this week, turned out well for him. Wilson tried his hand at baseball, didn’t have as much success, then switched back over to football, which turned out to probably be one of the best decisions of this life.

Who knows if the two kept in touch or are even friends now, but what they both share now is a fun little fact that they can share with friends and family for the rest of their lives.
