While some may love how processes work in the NBA, Terrell Owens has stated today that it’s the selection process for the Hall of Fame as to why he won’t be in Canton this weekend.

According to ESPN, Owens has stated that he disagrees with the selection process for the Hall and that the reports out there stating otherwise are untrue.

“I understand why I’ve made my decision. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me. But again, obviously the criteria and the system put in place for the Hall of Fame in order for guys like myself to be inducted, there are guidelines that the writers — the sportswriters — are supposed to adhere to.

This is not about not being inducted the first or second ballot, but it’s about the process in which guys are nominated and ultimately inducted. There is a flaw in that system. So this is not only about me, but it’s about the guys that went before me, that’s going to come after me. And I can make a stand for those guys so they won’t have to go through this situation.”

Many have stated that Owens felt snubbed last year when he wasn’t selected as a first ballot Hall of Famer. Something he felt he deserved with his remarkable numbers. However, it wasn’t his numbers that were called into question, but his character and actions with his former teams. Many feel it was those actions that kept him out of Canton on his first round.

For a character who’s known for always putting himself first, Owens seems to be doing otherwise on a weekend dedicated to him. While in Chattanooga to celebrate his induction at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Owens took the time to take 32 boys from the Boys to Men youth program on a shopping spree at Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Regardless of why Owens chose not to be in Canton with the rest of peers doesn’t matter at this point. As long as he’s doing positive things in Tennessee while the spotlight is on him one last time, that is what’s most important.
