1. A striking circle, or shooting circle, in field hockey is the semicircle within which an attacker must shoot the ball in order to score a goal.
If an attacker shoots from outside and then a teammate flicks it to the goal, the goal is valid; any contact by an attacker from within the striking circle counts. Contact from a defender does not make an outside shot valid.

The striking circle’s radius is 15 meters (about 16 yards) extending from the goal line centered around the goal.
What Happens When A Goal Is Scored Outside The Striking Circle?
When an attacker shoots the ball into the goal from outside of the striking circle, the goal does not count and a free hit is awarded to the defense. The shot is treated similarly to if the attacking team were to knock the ball out of bounds over the end line.
