1. A stage race is a type of cycling race spread over multiple days. Each day of a stage race is a stage. These daily races could be a time trial, road race, or criterium. After all the stages are finished, the rider with the fastest cumulative time is the winner. 

How Do Stage Races Work In Cycling?

The fastest rider over all the days of a stage race is the winner. Some days will favor sprinters, while others are better for climbers. The entire race is also called a Tour.

Typically, teams will work together during a stage race to help one person win. Teams will also consist of riders that receive different responsibilities according to their different strengths. 

What Is The Queen Stage?

The Queen Stage is the most difficult day or stage in a stage race. 

What Is The Hardest Stage In The Tour de France?

The most difficult, or Queen Stage, of the Tour de France is Stage 15. In 2021, this stage reached the race’s highest point at the top of Port d’Envalira.  

What Is The Longest Tour de France Stage?

Stage 7 is the longest stage of the Tour de France. In 2021, this stage began in Vierzon and was 249.1 km long. 

Can Anyone Do The Tour de France?

While only official professional cycling teams can compete in the Tour de France, there is a timed day race that takes place each year on a full stage of that year’s race. This is called the Étape du Tour and is open to any cyclist over the age of 18 who pays the entry fee.
