What Is The Definition Of A Lipslide?
1. A lipslide is a trick in which the skateboarder or snowboarder turns 90 degrees as they jump up onto a rail. The tail should lift over the rail, placing the board perpendicular across the rail midway between the trucks or bindings. When jumping off at the end, the board is turned back 90 degrees to realign it with the nose forward before hitting the ground.
This trick can be completed as a frontside lipslide (facing forwards) or as a backside lipslide (facing backwards). The lipslide is similar to a boardslide, but with the former the tail of the board goes over the rail, while in the latter the nose of the board goes over the rail. Due to the increased risk of the board snapping during this maneuver, it is sometimes called a “disaster slide” in skateboarding.
Follow these steps to complete a lipslide:
- Jump up high enough to clear the tail over the rail. As you lift into the air, turn your body 90 degrees.
- Land with the board centered on the rail perpendicularly. Extend your arms over the nose and tail to maintain balance.
- As you jump off the rail, turn your body back 90 degrees and bend your knees as you land.
