For the first time since 2007, the LSU Tigers are national champions.
The No. 1 Tigers barreled through a talented No. 3 Clemson Tigers team, 45-25 en route to their fourth national championship and their third title in the last 17 years.
The Tigers finished as arguably the best team in college football history, becoming only the second team ever to finish 15-0. However, the Tigers had beaten the most top-10 teams in history with seven and finished the season with 726 points. The total pushed them past the 2013 Florida State Seminoles for the most points tallied during a single FBS football season.

Their Heisman quarterback, Joe Burrow, had an incredible run this season and finished the night with records of his own.
By the time the confetti had fallen on the Superdome, Burrow had etched his name into the books with these statistics.
- Most Passing Touchdowns in a season with 60.
Colt Brennan of Hawaii previously held the record of 58 that he set during the 2006 season. - Total touchdowns in a national title game, during the BCS/CFP era, with 6.
- Burrow finished with most total combined yards in a national title game with 521.
The previous record was held by Deshaun Watson of Clemson with 478. - Most bowl game touchdowns in a game with 8.
In the Tigers’ Peach Bowl 63-28 victory over Oklahoma in the semifinals, Burrow had seven passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown. - Highest winning percentage by an LSU quarterback at .893.
Burrow finishes his career at LSU with a 25-3 record. - Most single-season passing yards in SEC with 5,671 yards.
Burrow is tied with Case Keenum’s 2009 total for third all-time in college football history. - Most passing playoff yards over with 956 yards.
- Most passing yards in a CFP title game with 463 yards.
The previous record was again held by Watson, with 420 yards, that he set in 2017 against Alabama. - Most total yards accumulated over two-game Playoff with 1,035 yards.
Although Burrow will be in the NFL next season, he’s solidified his stay in LSU history with his accomplishments this season.
