The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions.

Nearly a half-century since their last championship when they were crowned in 1969, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs orchestrated a 4th quarter comeback against the San Francisco 49ers to emerge victorious 31-20.

The Chiefs were down 20-10 in the third quarter when the tables began to turn. Especially in the magical final quarter.

The Chiefs tacked on 21 straight points in the final 6:13, pushing the team past any doubters and onto the winner’s podium.

Mahomes, the eventual Super Bowl MVP, looked anything but sharp in the early going of the game, throwing two interceptions. However, he prevailed late in the game like he did all postseason, throwing bombs of 44 and 38 yards to Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins to swing the momentum. The drives would eventually lead to touchdown catches by Travis Kelce, and the Niners couldn’t find a way to respond and would eventually fall to defeat.

Although it was the second championship in the history of the franchise, it marked the first time Andy Reid had won as a head coach in his 21 years as a head coach. He’s had one other chance to win as a head coach back in 1999 with the Philadelphia Eagles, but they would fall to the New Englad Patriots. However, he did win a Super Bowl as the tight ends coach of the Green Bay Packers in 1996.
